Girly Birthday Decor

For Audrey’s birthday dinner I wanted a few decorations that could be saved and used in her bedroom.  Everything I made and used is now in her room!

Pottery Barn Inspired Banner

Here is the banner on Audrey’s barn door headboard in her room.  Super cute!

Shabby Chic Window Pane

Old window panes are so much fun to use around the house.  This pink one came from an old building in downtown Denver.  The homeowners were ready replace it with a new energy efficient window, and I couldn’t be happier with their decision since I am the proud new owner of that beautiful old window.

I added some scrap booking paper behind the glass to create some interest and depth.

Anne Sloan Chalk Paint – Desk Make Over

I found this desk at Salvation Army for about $35.  I loved the lines and the hardware, but the dark red wood color doesn’t match a thing in my house.  So, I decided to paint and distress it.

Here is before-

I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and Wax and then distressed.  I love the finished product!

Burlap Wrapped Vases

Burlap adds so much texture to simple things!  The vases seemed naked, so I wrapped them in burlap.  Oh, and before I wrapped them I used a stencil, some heatnbond and all brown fabric to add that design.  I love the texture!

Chippy Armoire

Chunky pieces of furniture are my favorites, I just love to re-do large pieces because they make a huge statement!  I have painted a few of these chippy armoires, and every one of them is absolutely perfect in my eyes.  They are shabby chic to the extreme and they pop in any room!  Here is the one I most recently did.

(Sorry the clarity is not so good, I took these pics on my phone)

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

A few weeks ago I took an official class for Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  It was amazing!  I learned several great techniques with chalk paint.   I had an old IKEA nightstand that I painted black a few years ago…it was just icky and blah.  So I tried Paris Grey chalk paint and some clear wax and then distressed it so the black would show through.  It is GORGEOUS!

Here is a before picture.

And after.

DIY Barndoor Headboard

I have several beautiful barn doors this summer, all were more pricey than what I wanted to spend.  So, I decided to make one!  I spent several hours looking at pictures online and then I took a trip to Lowe’s and came home with all the supplies needed to build my own.

Here is a picture of the final product.  I love it!  It’s chunky and very sturdy.  I still need to work on the bedding and the rest of the room, but the barndoor gives me the direction and kick-start that I need.  (I promise I will post more pictures and a tutorial soon!)

Black and Antique White Table

I have spent a decent amount of time on this table.  I started it while my grandparents were staying with us, and my grandma shared some of her furniture secrets with me.  I must have inherited the creative gene from her!

Here is before.

Here is after.  I love it!

First I sanded the top down to the raw wood.

Then I covered the top with wrapping paper and primed the ugly green.  For this step I used my brand new paint gun!!!  It was wonderful to use!  For primer I used zinsser water based primer.  The paint was antique white by valspar.  I did three coats of paint after the primer was dried.

Next I stained the top black, two coats.  I finished using Minwax Polycrylic as the top coat.

The hardware is from Lowes.  I think it makes it look sophisticated.

I think it looks great in my dining room!

Cherry Blossom Design

That past few weeks I have indulged in two of my favorite hobbies, furniture refinishing and crafting home decor items. With the help of a close friend of mine we have set up our first booth at a local Antique mall, and as a result Cherry Blossom Design has been born!  I am so excited to use some of our giftings and talents to make a space beautiful!!  Here are some pictures of our shop, Cherry Blossom Design.
